A Guide to Centres in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland

The Association of Camphill Comunities

Since its foundation in 1940, the Camphill Movement has made an essential contribution to the development of education, therapy and residential care for those with special needs.

Camphill communities offer a diverse range of provision in which vulnerable children, adolescents and adults, many with learning difficulties, live, learn and work with others in healthy social relationships based on mutual care and respect.

This guide – Camphill Communities – provides information on each of the Camphill centres in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Its principal aim is to inform and assist those responsible for the placement of children, adolescents and adults with special needs. With full colour photographs and illustrations of each of the community locations, however, Camphill Communities presents a valuable overview of the caring social and practical environments of the Camphill Movement.

The illustrations show the overall layout for the Guide. The above pages are from Sturts Farm, to the right above are samples of the work of Camphill Architects and alongside is the Loch Arthur Community – one of the largest organic farms in Scotland.
